Abstract
Developing a large scale clean energy source is an immediate problem for human race. Improved living of standard and explosive increase of population have escalated the usage of energy, in particular, the fossil fuel. In return the increase of the fussil fuel based energy consumption has lead to a new issue of global warming through CO2 gas originated from the fossil fuel. Sustainment of our life style without usage of the fossil fuel requires an alternative large scale clean energy source. Among the candidates, a variety of resources were explored and found that none will replace the fossil fuel consumption in a significant way in a near future. They are solar, bio-mass, wind, and nuclear power, etc. One option that has been pursued but not in practical use is the endless cleaner form of nuclear power from the controlled fusion reaction. Harnessing the fusion power has a long history and recent progress warrants designing the fusion Demo reactor in two decades. In this talk, various potential clean energy resources will be discussed in conjunction with the future of human race. In particular, the progress of magnetic fusion plasma research will be introduced including Korean effort.
