▣ Abstract :
A
portable microwave plasma torch at atmospheric pressure by making use of
magnetrons operated at 2.45 GHz or 915 MHz has been developed. This
electrode-less torch can be used in various areas including industry, energy,
environmental, military and medical applications. For example, chemical and
biological warfare agents, if released, pose a great harm to mankind. This
portable microwave plasma torch presents a comprehensive decontamination scheme
of these warfare agents, including airborne agents and surface contaminating
agents, to minimize the destruction caused by the warfare agents. This new
decontamination scheme based on plasma devices and electrical discharges uses
mainly air and water without any chemicals. A plasma flame device with a
moderate size purifies a large volume of contaminated air, providing a rapid
and effective elimination of toxic substances in the interior air in isolated
spaces.
