POSTECH Electrical Engineering Students Win “2nd Prize Best Conference Paper Award” at 2023 IEEE iWAT
POSTECH Electrical Engineering students Myung-Jin Hwang (Master’s student), Young-No Yoon, Chung-Ah Lee, Dae-Hyun Kim, and Dong-Geun Ahn, under the guidance of Professor Won-Bin Hong, received the “2nd Prize Best Conference Paper Award” at the 2023 IEEE International Workshop on Antenna Technology (iWAT).
The IEEE iWAT, organized by the IEEE Antennas and Propagation Society (IEEE AP-S), is a leading international conference that showcases cutting-edge advancements in antenna design, advanced electromagnetic materials, compact antennas, medical antennas, mm-wave and THz technologies, and metamaterials. This year, the conference was held in Aalborg, Denmark. Among the eight finalists in the Best Conference Paper Competition, the authors secured second place after a rigorous evaluation process. Remarkably, along with Beom-Hyun Kim (Integrated PhD Student), who won the “1st Prize Best Student Paper Award,” this marks the first time in history that a single research group has achieved both first and second places in different award categories.
At the conference, the authors presented their paper titled “Wireless Channel-Adaptive Sensor-Integrated Reconfigurable Intelligent Surface Based on Deep Neural Network.” The study proposed the first-ever sensor-integrated, actively controllable intelligent surface combined with deep learning technology, demonstrating the technology using a commercial mmWave device. The paper was highly praised for its originality, innovation, significance to the antenna and propagation community, potential impact, and technical excellence, leading to its recognition as an outstanding conference paper.
