Beom-Hyun Kim (Integrated PhD Program) Wins “Best Student Paper Award” at IEEE EuCAP 2024
Beom-Hyun Kim, an integrated PhD student from POSTECH’s Department of Electrical Engineering (advisor: Professor Won-Bin Hong), received the prestigious Best Student Paper Award at the IEEE European Conference on Antennas and Propagation (EuCAP) 2024. His paper, titled “A Completely Overlapped Ku- and Ka-Band Dual-Polarized Phased Array for Simultaneous Terrestrial and Satellite Communications,” was recognized as the best among 987 submissions.
This marks the second Best Student Paper Award for Professor Hong’s research group, following their groundbreaking win at EuCAP 2020 as the first-ever Asian recipient, setting a new record by achieving this distinction twice within four years.
About the Research
The paper proposed a novel dual-band, dual-polarized phased array antenna design based on the Shared Aperture concept and cavity model analysis. This innovative approach maximizes spatial efficiency and antenna performance while offering advantages in compactness and scalability for new frequency bands. The method has been highly praised for its potential to expand applications in simultaneous terrestrial and satellite communications.
About EuCAP
The IEEE European Conference on Antennas and Propagation (EuCAP) is the largest conference in Europe dedicated to antennas and propagation. It is one of the three flagship conferences of the IEEE Antennas and Propagation Society (AP-S) and was held this year in Glasgow, Scotland. The conference is renowned for its rigorous selection process, with only one paper selected for the Best Student Paper Award after a four-stage evaluation process.
This recognition underscores POSTECH’s leadership in antenna technology and its continued excellence in cutting-edge research on the global stage.
