Myung-Sun Kim (PhD Candidate) Receives ‘Mojgan Daneshmand Grant’ from IEEE Antennas and Propagation Society (AP-S)

Myeongseon Kim, a Ph.D. candidate in the Department of Electrical Engineering at POSTECH under the supervision of Professor Wonbin Hong, has been awarded the ‘Mojgan Daneshmand Grant’ at the 2024 IEEE International Symposium on Antennas and Propagation and ITNC-UNSC-URSI Radio Science Meeting (IEEE AP-S/URSI).

Established in 2021, the Mojgan Daneshmand Grant aims to highlight the achievements of women in the field of electromagnetics and encourage their leadership roles. Each year, only 12 recipients are selected worldwide, and this marks the first time a scholar from Korea has been honored. Selection criteria include the innovation of the research project, publication records, and accolades from domestic and international conferences.

Kim’s research project, titled “Sub-Degree Direction-of-Arrival Retrieval under Multipath Propagation Conditions in the UWB Spectrum using Antenna-on-Display,” focuses on achieving high-precision indoor positioning in multipath environments. The study proposes a highly directional UWB AoD antenna that operates effectively within the limited space of mobile devices and develops a positioning algorithm that accounts for complex indoor propagation conditions to provide accurate location information. This fusion of antenna technology and positioning systems introduces a novel approach to localization, with potential applications in future mobile and IoT devices.
