Professor Wonbin Hong from POSTECH’s Department of Electrical Engineering has been appointed as the first-ever IEEE AP-S (Antennas and Propagation Society) Executive Committee member in Korea.
Professor Wonbin Hong from POSTECH’s Department of Electrical Engineering has been appointed as a member of the Executive Committee (AdCom) of the IEEE Antennas and Propagation Society (IEEE AP-S), marking the first time a Korean scholar has been selected for this prestigious position.
In the IEEE AP-S election held this year, four new executive committee members were chosen, with Professor Hong being selected to represent the Asia-Pacific region (Region 10). His term will begin on January 1, 2025, and last for three years. Professor Hong, who was named the first IEEE Fellow in the antenna field from South Korea, has received numerous Best Paper Awards at major IEEE AP-S conferences, served as the editor for various academic journals, organized conferences, and contributed to technical committees, all of which played a significant role in his selection.
Professor Hong earned his bachelor’s degree from Purdue University, and his master’s and Ph.D. degrees from the University of Michigan. Since 2016, he has been guiding students at POSTECH.
In his statement, Professor Hong expressed, “I feel a great sense of responsibility as the first Korean to be elected to the IEEE AP-S Executive Committee. Since antenna and propagation technologies form the foundation of electrical and electronic engineering, I will strive to contribute to the advancement of research in this field through my activities at IEEE AP-S.”
The IEEE is the world’s largest and most prestigious professional organization in the fields of electrical, electronic, computer, and communications engineering, with nearly 400,000 members across 160 countries. IEEE AP-S, with 12,000 members, is the world’s largest society dedicated to the field of radio science.
