Jihwan Lee (M.S. Student) Receives TICRA Travel Grant at IEEE AP-S/URSI 2025 Jihwa

Jihwan Lee (M.S. student) from the Department of Electrical Engineering at POSTECH (advisor: Prof. Wonbin Hong) received the TICRA Travel Grant at the IEEE International Symposium on Antennas and Propagation and USNC-URSI Radio Science Meeting (IEEE AP-S/URSI) 2025. The grant is awarded by the TICRA Foundation, a globally recognized organization leading education and research in electromagnetic technologies.

Each year, TICRA selects only eight recipients worldwide and provides a $1,000 travel grant. The award is open to researchers from all regions and career stages, not limited to graduate students, making it particularly competitive for student applicants.

Lee’s research, titled “Holographic Surfaces with a Closed-Form Solution for Precise Near-Field Wireless Communication,” proposes a novel approach to compensate for focal errors occurring in the Fresnel region of large-aperture antennas using a single closed-form analytical solution. The method enables real-time multi-focus beam focusing and quantitative prediction of beam characteristics without iterative optimization, demonstrating performance that surpasses conventional optimization-based approaches.

Based on its innovation and technical significance, the research was selected for an oral presentation at IEEE AP-S/URSI 2025, and Lee was also chosen as a recipient of the TICRA Travel Grant, providing an opportunity to present and share the research with the global antenna research community.
