Beom-Hyun Kim and Dong-Seob Lee (Integrated PhD Students) Win “1st Prize Best Conference Paper Award” at 2023 IEEE iWAT
POSTECH Electrical Engineering integrated PhD students Beom-Hyun Kim and Dong-Seob Lee, under the guidance of Professor Won-Bin Hong, received the prestigious “1st Prize Best Conference Paper Award” at the 2023 IEEE International Workshop on Antenna Technology (iWAT).
The IEEE iWAT, organized by the IEEE Antennas and Propagation Society (IEEE AP-S), is a globally renowned conference in the field of antenna technology. It covers topics such as antenna design, advanced electromagnetic materials, compact antennas, medical antennas, mm-wave and THz technologies, and metamaterials. This year’s conference was held in Aalborg, Denmark. Notably, alongside Myung-Jin Hwang (Master’s student), who secured the “2nd Prize Best Conference Paper Award,” this marks the first time in the history of iWAT that a single research group has won both first and second prizes in different award categories.
At the conference, the authors presented their paper titled “mmWave Mobile Devices with Reconfigurable Broadside and Endfire Radiation using Shared Aperture Antenna-on-Display and Antenna-in-Package.” The research introduces a novel technique that combines Antenna-on-Display and Antenna-in-Package technologies into a shared-aperture structure. This innovative approach achieves compact packaging within mobile devices while maximizing coverage efficiency in the mmWave band. The integration and experimental validation of the technology with commercial mmWave devices further demonstrated its practical feasibility.
The study was highly praised for its originality, innovation, significance to the antenna and propagation community, potential impact, and technical excellence, earning it the top honor at the conference.
