Dongseop Lee, a Ph.D. candidate in the Department of Electrical Engineering at POSTECH (advisor: Prof. Wonbin Hong), received the TICRA Travel Grant at the IEEE European Conference on Antennas and Propagation (EuCAP) 2025.

At the conference, Lee presented his research titled “Traveling Wave Antenna-on-Display Featuring Simultaneous 2-D Phase and Frequency Beam Scanning for Integrated Sensing and Communication.” The TICRA Travel Grant is awarded by the TICRA Foundation, a globally recognized organization known for its contributions to satellite antenna research and advanced electromagnetic analysis.

Each year, TICRA selects only eight recipients worldwide for this prestigious travel grant program. The competition is open to researchers across different career stages and regions, making it highly competitive. As a result, it is particularly rare for graduate students to receive this award, highlighting the international recognition of Lee’s research achievements and impact.

The presented work introduces, for the first time, the concept of a Traveling Wave Antenna-on-Display (TWAoD) for Integrated Sensing and Communication (ISAC) systems. The proposed design utilizes a transparent antenna structure integrated into a display panel, enabling simultaneous two-dimensional beam scanning through both phase and frequency control for radar sensing and communication frequencies.

By addressing the space constraints commonly faced by conventional ISAC systems, the proposed approach demonstrates the feasibility of performing simultaneous radar sensing and wireless communication using a single antenna platform. Compared with other studies presented internationally, this research offers a highly differentiated solution with strong innovation and performance, suggesting a new paradigm for next-generation sensing and communication systems.
