Dowon Lee (Ph.D. candidate) from the Department of Electrical Engineering at POSTECH (Advisor: Prof. Moonjoo Lee) received the SK hynix Paper Award at the 32nd Korean Conference on Semiconductors (KCS 2025) for his presentation titled “Construction of an Optical Conveyor Belt and Optical Lattices in an Atom–Cavity System.”
KCS is the largest academic conference in Korea dedicated to semiconductor research, where leading researchers present and exchange the latest advancements in the field.

In this work, Lee and Prof. Lee’s research team demonstrated the precise transport of neutral atoms into a high-finesse optical cavity using an optical conveyor belt, followed by stable trapping of the atoms within a three-dimensional optical lattice. The team also successfully observed the exceptional point phenomenon within this atom–cavity system.

Building on these results, the research team aims to develop quantum network nodes that enable coherent information exchange between atoms and photons. Their future research will further explore technologies required for scalable large-scale quantum computers, quantum simulations, and quantum repeaters.
