Geunho Kang and Jihoon Kim (undergraduate students), along with Jihun Woo (Ph.D. candidate) from the research group of Prof. Yongjun Kim in the Department of Electrical Engineering at POSTECH, received the Undergraduate Best Paper Award at the 2025 Summer Conference of the Korean Institute of Communications and Information Sciences (KICS).
The KICS Summer Conference is one of the largest academic conferences in Korea in the field of electrical and electronic engineering, with more than 2,000 participants attending each year.
In this research, the team proposed a new information-theoretic algorithm for measuring the randomness of cryptographic random numbers using the LZ77 general-purpose compression algorithm. The work was carried out by Geunho Kang and Jihoon Kim as part of their undergraduate capstone design project under the supervision of Prof. Yongjun Kim.
