Hyunjong Ok (Integrated M.S.–Ph.D. student) from the research group of Prof. Jaeho Lee in the Department of Electrical Engineering at POSTECH received the Outstanding Paper Award at the 2025 Summer Conference of the Korean Society for Artificial Intelligence (KSAI).

Ok presented a paper titled “Do Video Models Really Know Where to Look? Diagnosing Attention Failures in Video Language Models.”

The paper reveals for the first time that CLIP-based vision–language models, which are commonly used to build language models capable of understanding videos, often fail to identify frames that are meaningfully related to the given question within a video. Based on this finding, the study proposes new techniques to address this limitation and improve the attention mechanisms of video language models.
