Jongyeop Sun, a senior undergraduate student in the Department of Electrical Engineering at POSTECH, is gaining global attention through his startup Lutra, which develops AI-based character personalization technology.

Sun, who co-founded the company, first received international recognition when Lutra won a CES 2023 Innovation Award, becoming the youngest Korean recipient at the event. In 2025, the startup achieved further milestones by being selected for global startup programs by Google and OpenAI.

The technology developed by Lutra allows users to create personalized characters that reflect their own facial features while maintaining the original identity of a brand character. The solution received strong interest at a local event held at UC Berkeley, demonstrating its commercial potential.

Lutra is currently focusing on B2B services for corporate clients, while also preparing to expand into consumer-oriented (B2C) services in the future.

Sun stated, “Technology is most meaningful when it can move people.” He added that he aims to continue developing technologies that connect people through meaningful and human-centered experiences.
