[ 수상 ]Junwoo Kim (Undergraduate Student) Receives Undergraduate Outstanding Paper Award at the 2025 KIEES Summer Conference

Junwoo Kim (undergraduate student) from the Department of Electrical Engineering at POSTECH (advisor: Prof. Dongyeop Na) received the Undergraduate Outstanding Paper Award at the Undergraduate Student Paper Competition held during the 2025 Summer Conference of the Korean Institute of Electromagnetic Engineering and Science (KIEES).

Kim presented a paper titled “Design of an Asymmetric Optical Transmission Dielectric Structure for Radiative Cooling.”

The study evaluated the cooling performance of a two-dimensional dielectric structure with asymmetric transmission in the infrared band for passive radiative cooling. In particular, the research analyzed thermal radiation behavior under arbitrary angles of incidence.

To achieve this, the study performed electromagnetic numerical simulations based on the finite element method with two-dimensional Bloch periodic boundary conditions. Transmission and reflection spectra were calculated for different incident angles, and the cooling temperature was quantitatively analyzed through a thermal radiation energy balance model. These contributions were recognized for their technical significance, leading to the award.
