[ 수상 ]Prof. Bum-Man Kim Receives the European Microwave Association Outstanding Career Award
Prof. Bum-Man Kim, Professor Emeritus in the Department of Electrical Engineering at POSTECH, received the Outstanding Career Award from the European Microwave Association (EuMA) in September 2025.
Prof. Kim is a globally recognized scholar who has made pioneering contributions to microwave power amplifier technologies over the past four decades. His work played a decisive role in establishing the modern Doherty amplifier architecture, and he has led innovations in HBT-based microwave amplifiers, early millimeter-wave MMIC technologies, 100-GHz oscillators, and high-efficiency linear power amplifiers for 5G systems. These contributions have significantly advanced both mobile communications and microwave engineering technologies worldwide.
During his 28-year tenure as a professor at POSTECH, Prof. Kim supervised 58 Ph.D. students and made substantial contributions to both education and research, influencing academia and industry alike. Through active scholarly engagement, he has also played an important role in advancing the global microwave engineering community. In particular, his work on microwave power amplifiers has helped reshape the technological landscape and repeatedly set new directions for the international research community.
This recognition follows Prof. Kim’s IEEE MTT-S Microwave Application Award in 2023, marking another major international honor and further confirming the global impact of his work in microwave amplification technologies for wireless applications.
