[ 수상 ]Research Team Led by Shin, Se-Un Wins Grand Prize at the 2025 Hyundai Mobis Electrification Paper Competition
A research team led by Shin, Se-Un, professor in the Department of Electrical Engineering at POSTECH, has received the Grand Prize (₩10,000,000) in the Master’s Category of the Power Semiconductor Division at the 2025 Hyundai Mobis Electrification Paper Competition.
The award-winning team includes Minsik Kim (M.S. student) from the Department of Electrical Engineering and Myungho Kim and Dongchan Lee (integrated M.S./Ph.D. students) from the Graduate School of Semiconductor Technology, all under the supervision of Shin, Se-Un.
In this research, the team proposed an active gate driver circuit for next-generation SiC MOSFET power semiconductors, significantly improving the switching performance of power devices. In addition, the researchers integrated a short-circuit detection and protection circuit, which rapidly detects fault conditions and protects the driving device—an aspect not sufficiently addressed in previous studies—thereby enhancing system reliability.
The Hyundai Mobis Electrification Paper Competition covers a wide range of research topics related to electrification technologies, including power semiconductor systems, and aims to recognize and share outstanding research results from both academia and industry while providing valuable technological insights relevant to industrial applications.
This achievement is expected to strengthen Korea’s capabilities in power semiconductor circuit design, an area previously considered relatively underdeveloped domestically, and to contribute to the development of high-efficiency, high-reliability power conversion systems and enhanced technological competitiveness in the future.
