Suchang Song (M.S. student) from the Department of Electrical Engineering at POSTECH (advisor: Prof. Yongjun Kim) received the Outstanding Paper Award at the 2025 Summer Conference of the Korean Institute of Communications and Information Sciences (KICS) for his paper titled “Collaborative Edge–Server Inference Using Vision–Language Models.”

The KICS Summer Conference is one of the largest academic conferences in Korea in the field of electrical and electronic engineering, with more than 2,000 participants attending each year.

In this research, the author proposes a framework for efficient inference of vision–language models through collaboration between edge devices and cloud servers. In particular, the study introduces an algorithm that semantically compresses information transmitted to the server by utilizing the computational resources of edge devices, thereby improving communication efficiency between the edge and the server.
