Sujin Kang (Integrated M.S.–Ph.D. student) from the Department of Electrical Engineering at POSTECH (advisor: Prof. Sooyong Chae) received the Best Paper Award at the 2025 Power Electronics Conference, organized by the Korean Institute of Power Electronics (KIPE).

Kang presented a paper titled “Switch Open-Circuit Fault Detection Algorithm for Full-Bridge LLC Resonant Converters Based on Resonant Capacitor Voltage.”

The paper proposes a two-stage algorithm capable of detecting switch open-circuit faults in full-bridge LLC resonant converters and identifying the location of the faulty switch. The proposed method enables real-time fault detection using only a single voltage sensor, and it can operate effectively in high switching-frequency environments by utilizing analog circuitry without requiring high-speed ADCs.

The approach is expected to be effectively applied to a variety of high-reliability power conversion systems in the future.

The 29th Power Electronics Conference was attended by approximately 1,100 participants, with 408 research papers presented during the event.
