Sungjun Han (M.S. student) from the Department of Electrical Engineering at POSTECH (advisor: Prof. Wonbin Hong) received the Outstanding Paper Award at the 2025 Summer Conference of the Korean Institute of Electromagnetic Engineering and Science (KIEES) for his paper titled “Single-RF Chain 60 GHz Planar Antenna Supporting Wide Radiation in Both E- and H-Planes.”
The study proposes an antenna that achieves stable wide radiation characteristics in both the E- and H-planes at the 60 GHz band. Unlike previous approaches that were limited to a single radiation plane or exhibited unstable performance across frequencies, the proposed antenna maintains stable performance even when integrated with a communication module, as demonstrated through experimental validation.
In addition, real-time video transmission experiments confirmed that reliable communication can be maintained even when the transmitter and receiver are not perfectly aligned.
This research introduces a new approach for realizing wide-angle radiation characteristics and provides a technological foundation for next-generation applications, including wireless displays, short-range ultra-high-speed data transmission, and real-time video streaming.
In recognition of its originality and technical significance, the study was selected for the Outstanding Paper Award at the 2025 KIEES Summer Conference.
