Jung-Hyo Lee, an integrated M.S./Ph.D. student in POSTECH’s Department of Electrical Engineering under the supervision of Professor Wonbin Hong, has become the first student from Korea to receive the John Volakis Travel Grant at the IEEE Antennas and Propagation Society (IEEE AP-S) International Symposium, one of the world’s largest international conferences in the field of antennas and propagation.

This marks another first for Lee, who was also the first Korean recipient of the TICRA Travel Grant at the 2024 IEEE AP-S Symposium.

His latest recognition further extends an exceptional record of achievement at the conference. Lee received an IEEE AP-S Honorable Mention in 2024, another Honorable Mention in 2025, and the John Volakis Travel Grant in 2026, earning recognition at IEEE AP-S for three consecutive years—a rare accomplishment in the history of the symposium.

He has also been selected as a Semi-Finalist in the conference’s Student Design Contest, raising expectations for further recognition at this year’s event.

The John Volakis Travel Grant is a highly competitive global research support program that selects recipients each year based on their research achievements and future potential. Fewer than eight graduate students worldwide are selected annually.

At this year’s conference, Lee will present his research on phased-array antenna technology capable of operating in both harmonic and non-harmonic frequency environments, addressing a limitation that has traditionally posed significant challenges in antenna research.

In addition to his record of international awards, Lee has contributed as an author to eight domestic and international patents and ten SCI-indexed journal papers, demonstrating the originality and technical strength of his research and earning growing recognition from the international research community.
